Asia Chmielewska
A vernacular collector
Asia, a Polish-born and Barcelona based photographer, interior stylist and collector, pursues vernacular photographs and other non essential but beautiful objects.
"My passion for interiors occurred as a kind of natural way. I describe my space as "izba", which is an old Polish word for chamber, or small space. I practically live in one room. I am very inspired by old peasant interiors simplicity and functionality. Living near the Mediterranean Sea has become a big influence as well."
"I pay fine attention to the composition, form, materials and colours"
Looking for objects on flea markets, small thrift stores, online stores, just waiting for that moment when something will charm me endlessly no matter if it's its color, shape, or weirdness."
“I don't feel like I am a designer. I just like to play with materials and ready-made pieces by giving them a new use and completely different from the original one.”
Asia describes fabric as her latest fascination. She collects them in different colours and textures, hanging them on the doors, creating walls, or to add a softness to the surroundings.
